I learned how to navigate design processes within environments that have significant external constraints. Despite these limitations, the design team’s autonomy allowed us to explore creative solutions that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.
The role also involved extensive cross-functional collaboration with people outside the design and development space. I developed the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals who had different priorities and perspectives. A major challenge was working with non-design-focused stakeholders. I had to hone my communication and persuasion skills to explain design choices in ways that aligned with their goals and helped them see the value of our decisions.
Reporting directly to the VP of Operations added pressure to perform at a high level. The emphasis on efficiency and productivity meant I had to stay extremely organized and make every minute count.
